The FSA Commemorates: The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

December 6, 2024

On December 6, the FSA joins others in Canada to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, which marks the day in 1989 when 14 women were murdered at École Polytechnique in Montreal. Those who died were Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte, and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz. FSA Vice President Shannon Kelly has written powerfully about the resonance of December 6 in our sector, concluding that we “can all contribute to working towards acknowledging and addressing gender-based discrimination and violence, including learning how to create safe(r) environments on campus.”

There are dozens of ways that the FSA can help members improve conditions at BCIT and in the wider community Get Involved Please let us know how we can improve this site. We want to hear from you! Website Feedback
