Utilizing the PTS PD Fund

November 5, 2026

The PTS PD Fund (Article 10.11, pp. 65-66), to paraphrase the Collective Agreement, is designed to promote leadership in technological education by helping members in PTS maintain professional currency, flexibility, and competence, while supporting their individual professional development. Eligible applicants include Instructors/Lecturers, Lab Assistants, and Curriculum Writers with PTS contracts who have accrued at least 108 PTS hours in the previous year and are ineligible for funding under Article 10.3 (pp. 57-59). Please see the PTS PD Fund’s intranet page for more information. All fund details should be confirmed with its administrator.

The FSA was pleased to learn about member Brenda Marten's recent publication in the peer-reviewed Journal of Regenerative Economics, which emerged from graduate-level coursework supported by the fund. Brenda expressed her appreciation for that support while discussing her accomplishment with Member Engagement Officer Matt Greaves. She hopes sharing this achievement will help demonstrate the value of the fund and highlight the educational and research opportunities it creates for members in PTS pursuing further education. "My expertise in what I teach has been gained from industry experience. The PD fund allowed me to earn credentials that recognize that experience, as well as filling the gaps in knowledge that I was aware of, and more importantly, those I was unaware of. I am very grateful this support exists." The fund has several application rounds each year, and FSA members working in PTS, not eligible for 10.3, are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements and consider applying if their professional development goals align with the fund's criteria.
