Black History Month Spotlights
February 15, 2024
In 2023, FSA members and staff shared with us some the leaders in this province who’ve inspired them. We’re revisiting these profiles below in our ongoing Black History Month 2024 commemorations.
- FSA Vice President Shannon Kelly shares her thoughts and those of her son Liam on the Jamaican Canadian educator and politician Rosemary Brown.
- The Honourable Selwyn Romily was the first Black B.C. Supreme Court Justice.
- FSA member Peter Seidl remembers Emery Barnes: “During Black History Month, and at other times of the year, I think about Emery Barnes (1929 — 1998), Olympic-level athlete, professional football player, social worker, human rights advocate, politician, and–most importantly–mensch.”
