Tech Reps

Tech Reps

Technology Representatives (Tech Reps) play a vital role in the FSA, similar to shop stewards in other unions. Selected annually by FSA members in each area or Department, Tech Reps are personal links between the FSA’s Board of Directors, staff, and the union’s general membership. They provide up-to-date area information to Union leadership, disseminate important news to members, attend seven meetings annually, and triage problems in their area as they arise. Defined under Article 1.8.14 of the Collective Agreement, Tech Reps have the legal protections that apply to a union representative, with their work further outlined in the FSA’s Tech Rep policy (2.3.1).

Tech Reps are elected in every Department or area of the Institute where FSA members work—typically two per area, with some areas voting for more or fewer reps depending on size and need. Tech Reps may be called upon to triage potential labour issues or to communicate your issues to FSA Board and Staff. Visit our Members Portal to find the Tech Rep in your Department.
