Bargaining Round 19 Summary

The FSA’s 19th round of bargaining with the employer came to an end in summer 2023. Below is a summary of bargaining communications beginning in December 2021.
- December 2021 / Bargaining Survey FAQ: 664 members complete a bargaining survey to help the Collective Agreement Committee and Bargaining Team identify priorities.
- April 2022 / Primer: Bargaining a new FSA Collective Agreement: Bargaining proposals are being developed, with the 2019-22 agreement set to expire July 1.
- April 2022 / Impasse at the Bargaining Table for BCGEU: Public-sector bargaining in BC follows a pattern established by the first to settle. As the first large union to go the table with their employer, what the BCGEU received would set a pattern for other agreements. FSA staff and leadership were closely following their negotiations.
- August 2022 / Bargaining Update: The first bargaining dates are set, and the employer announces its bargaining team.
- August 2022 / FSA President and Treasurer Join Striking BCGEU Members: FSA Board and staff members walk a picket line to support BCGEU members.
- September 2022 / BCGEU and HEU Reach Tentative Agreements with Province: The public sector bargaining pattern is close to established, subsequent to ratification.
- October 2022 / BCGEU Public-Sector Workers Ratify Agreement
- January 2023 / Bargaining Update: Timeline: Where we were at and how we got there.
- May 2023 / Bargaining Update: End of academic year bargaining update.
- June 2023 / Tentative Agreement Reached (summary included): The FSA reaches a tentative agreement with the employer on June 15, 2023.
- June 2023 / Bargaining Communique (login required): A thorough explanation of the new agreement, including links to all the new language.
- July 2023 / Settlement Ratified: FSA membership ratifies the new agreement on July 7, 2023, bringing to an end round 19.
- July 2023 / Provinces Ratifies Collective Agreement: The last ‘i’ is dotted as the province signs off on the deal.
