The FSA commemorates Remembrance Day, celebrated each November 11. The holiday provides an opportunity to honour the war dead and reflect on the necessity of peace and equity as well as Canada’s work toward a future without war. Remembrance Day was first observed in this country, as it was through much of the Commonwealth, as Armistice Day, marking the end of the First World War. This itself provides another reminder: Working people have a vested interest in ending war. It is always workers that bear the weight of war, with the total number of military and civilian casualties in the First War around forty million people, including over 66,000 killed and 172,000 wounded from Canada.
