Changes to the Part-Time Studies Professional Development Fund
November 24, 2025
The FSA and the employer have agreed to continue a pilot project that alters the current Part-time Studies (PTS)--also know as Flexible Learning--Professional Development Fund. The revised language expands eligibility, enabling a greater number of members to access the fund, while broadening the range of expenses for which the annual $210,000 allocation may be used.
Article 10.11 of the Collective Agreement requires members working in PTS (and ineligible for funding under Article 10.3) to have accrued 150 PTS contract hours in the preceding calendar year. The pilot reduces this threshold to 108 hours and permits PTS members who have completed five or more years of teaching at BCIT to apply for up to $1,000 toward the purchase of a computer. Applications for new computers may be made once every four years.
