About

BCIT FSA Logo

With more than 1,800 members, the Faculty and Staff Association (FSA) is the largest union at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Since our certification in 1974—making the FSA one of the oldest academic trade unions in Canada—we have fought to improve working and learning conditions at BCIT through member representation, negotiation, and advocacy. The FSA strives to account for the needs of the whole worker, committing to equity, diversity, and inclusion We recognize the importance of committing to Reconciliation and know this commitment must be grounded in respect and guided by our Indigenous union and community members. We are a democratic organization, governed by a 10-member elected Board of Directors, with daily affairs conducted by a professional staff, and members organized through our Tech Rep program. Our collective agreement grants particular rights and duties to our members' Departments, and the collegial functioning of Departments allows our members to significantly influence their working conditions.

The FSA is proudly affiliated with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), BC Federation of Labour (BCFED), Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), and the National Union for Canadian Association of University Teachers (NUCAUT).

The FSA is committed to supporting the robust participation of all members. Our goal is to provide easy access to all FSA spaces, physical and digital. On our website, the FSA is striving to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA accessibility guidelines.
