The FSA Observes: Women’s Memorial March
February 13, 2025
The FSA acknowledges the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, on whose ancestral, unceded, and traditional territories our offices and members on-campus workplaces are located. We also recognize and honour those who remain missing and extend our support to the survivors and families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ People.
The Women’s Memorial March honours missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people. The march began in Vancouver in 1992, following the murder of Cheryl Ann Joe. It not only serves as a memorial but also as a call for justice, awareness, and action. The fact that it has grown from a local event to one observed in over 20 cities across Canada and the U.S. speaks to the widespread impact of this issue and the solidarity within Indigenous and allied communities.
The FSA has provided a donation to the Atira Women’s Resource Society, an organization dedicated to supporting those affected by gender-based violence—offering safe and supportive housing and delivering education and advocacy aimed at ending all forms of gendered violence.
