Member Voices: Check Your Pay Stub!
October 10, 2023
Cheryl Emmett, an FSA member in Nursing, wrote to us recently with a reoccurring payroll problem. The moral of the story is to please check your paystubs!
________
I recently emailed Human Resources inquiring about my Step Level in anticipation of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement pay raise. They emailed back and I was informed that my step incrementation was not processed correctly. I was supposed to reach Step 15 on April 1, 2022. Because this was missed, my eligibility for $2400 in Professional Development for Step 15s was also missed for a year. I was informed that I will receive a retroactive payment through payroll to address both of these errors.
I am sharing my story because this is not the first time this has happened to me. In January 2019, HR reached out and informed me that I was missed moving up the Step Scale for two years. I was told this was a result of missed audits that occur every two years. I received a retroactive payment that mostly went to taxes. I know “it all evens out in the end,” but my yearly income was affected due to these errors.
As you can imagine, I am very upset and frustrated that this happened again. This is a reminder to check your pay stubs! Or email HR to ensure that you are in the correct Step Scale.
