FSA Wins Honourable Mention for Excellence in Layout & Design
June 23, 2015
The Canadian Association of Labour Media (CALM) brings together communicators in the Canadian labour movement each year to provide training, build relationships, share skills, and honour the communications work of both staff and members of Canadian unions.
The conference includes the annual CALM awards and we were thrilled to be presented with an honourable mention for Excellence in Layout & Design for our 2013-14 Annual Report! Following our brand redesign in the spring of 2014, we have worked to produce eye catching and content rich publications for our members. We are honoured to have that work recognized in our first year of entering the awards.
We especially want to acknowledge the work of Maria Angerilli, the FSA Executive Assistant and talented designer, for producing a document that caught the eye of the CALM judges and provided exposure for the work of the FSA and our amazing membership.
This year’s CALM conference theme was ‘Stronger Communications. Stronger Unions.’ Over 100 attendees from around Canada were offered workshops with titles ranging from How to Engage and Inspire Using Film, Start a Visual Revolution: 16 Visual Techniques to Connect with Members and Build Stronger Unions, and Blogs that Pop. The 15 workshops offered were complemented with:
- Welcoming remarks from John Horgan and Shane Simpson
- A panel on Celebrating and Analyzing our Victories with panelists from the BCTF, Alberta Federation of Labour, and Saskatchewan Federation of Labour
- Keynote Speakers Brenda Sayers and Kevin Millsip
- A special training day on using humour in our communications work from the team at SHD
By participating in labour movement activities like the CALM conference, we believe we can improve our services to members and build solidarity with other union members facing struggles similar to ours. Congratulations to all the 2015 winners!
