FSA Statement on Targeted Attack at Waterloo
July 4, 2023
The BCITFSA is alarmed by last Wednesday’s targeted attack on a University of Waterloo gender studies class. We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, any action that terrorizes or impedes the daily life of 2SLGBTQIA+ community members, educators, and students. The FSA stands in solidarity with those impacted by the attack and individuals experiencing anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate.
The FSA will continue our efforts in support of diversity, inclusion, and equity, while continuously advocating for our members’ safety and wellbeing at work. Equity and solidarity are core values of the FSA and trade unionism more broadly. We must stand up against hatred at our workplaces.
We invite interested members to please sign and share this petition, joining Colin Jones, FSA President, Shannon Kelly, FSA Vice President, along with Board members and FSA staff.
If you require personal assistance or support, please see BCIT’s response to the incident which provides links to the support and advocacy services available to you.
