Round 20, Bargaining Dispatch I: Recent CAC Activity
December 16, 2024
The FSA’s Collective Agreement with the employer expires June 30, 2025. To gather information for our upcoming contract negotiations, the FSA’s Board, staff, and Collective Agreement Committee (CAC) have been meeting with FSA members since Spring 2024. Throughout November and December of this year, CAC representatives gathered direct feedback from over 250 members from across the Institute—from every school in which our members work and every job category we occupy. These bargaining forums took place online, in the campus pub, at the Downtown Campus, and at ad hoc locations around BCIT. Simultaneously, the CAC held its member bargaining survey, which in each round informs the FSA's bargaining proposals. The 854 members that completed the survey represent a 29% increase over 2021 and more than double the 2018 responses. Thanks to our members for contributing to our data collection so thoroughly.
The job now becomes one of turning the quantitative and qualitative data we’ve gathered into proposal language—another task for the CAC, who held their last meeting of the calendar year on December 10, before beginning their work again in January. The CAC will soon bring forward bargaining themes to the membership for approval, and the FSA’s Board will appoint a Bargaining Team in the coming months.
Throughout the bargaining process, we will update the membership with relevant information in our weekly Friday E-Bulletin. Bargaining Dispatches, like this one, will be posted onto the Bargaining Updates section of our website available under the Collective Agreement dropdown menu.
In solidarity.
