FSA Announcement: Michael Conlon's Departure
January 9, 2023
Our Executive Director, Michael Conlon, will be leaving the FSA on February 3. We will miss Michael and wish him well is his new adventures.
We would also like to thank Michael for his excellent work on behalf of our members over the past two and a half years. During Michael’s tenure, we successfully negotiated the challenging return to campus, secured a historic settlement in the BSN grievance, and subsequently expanded our education for members on their Departmental rights.
On January 6, we held a Special Board of Directors Meeting to discuss Michael’s departure. The Board, in consultation with Michael, developed a transition plan whereby I will take on the additional duties of the Executive Director, in addition to my duties as President, until we find a permanent Executive Director.* The Board also approved enhanced duties for Maria Angerilli, FSA Operations and Human Resources Director (OHRD), to assist in my temporarily expanded role and ensure a smoothly operating FSA. To support the additional duties of both myself and the OHRD, the Board will allocate resources as needed. Given my work in the office over the past few years, I am confident of a seamless transition.
While we are disappointed to see Michael depart, I am certain we have a strong plan in place for the interim while our Board develops a recruitment strategy to replace him.
Unquestionably, we have a busy year ahead of us as an organization: we aim to conclude bargaining and identify our next Executive Director. Yet I am convinced that the FSA is positioned for success. Our Board’s focus remains resolute–securing the best possible deal for our membership while providing you with exemplary member services.
I will provide updates as we move through the transition. In the meantime, please feel free to connect with me if you have any questions.
Colin Jones, BCITFSA President
